The Linonian Literary Society was founded in 1753. All undergraduates were allowed to be members of the Linonian Society. Emerson, Ralph, 1787-1863

Ralph Emerson was born in Hollis, New Hampshire on August 18, 1787. He graduated from Yale College in 1811 and received a Doctor of Divinity degree from the school in 1830. He served as Pastor of the Congregational Church in Norwalk, Connecticut from 1816 to 1829 and as a professor at Andover Theological Seminary from 1829 to 1854.
